Over the last year or so, numerous artists have been trying to revive some of the funky and synthy sounds that made 80s music so great. Perhaps the best example of this is The Weeknd’s most recent album, After Hours. On his latest track, GASHI goes for this same type of aesthetic and it pays off immensely.
Throughout the song, we get this incredible 80s-inspired beat that thumps in the background and complements GASHI’s voice beautifully. From there, the artist delivers an autotune-laced vocal performance that contains lyrics about paranoia and being watched. GASHI is also wearing a 1984 jacket in the music video which shows you that the’s going all-in on the surveillance motif.

[Chorus]
Paranoid, someone’s watching me
Paranoid, all call me
Feeling like someone’s after me
In my mind, haunting me
Had enough, someone set me free
Paranoid, anxiety
Paranoid, having a bad dream
Paranoid, I’ll come in
[Verse]
Depends on me
They keep trynna read my mind
That’s on me, that’s on me
Depends on me
Can’t no one can kill my vibe
That’s on me, that’s on me
[Chorus]
Paranoid, someone’s watching me
Paranoid, all call me
Feeling like someone’s after me
In my mind, haunting me
Had enough, someone set me free
Paranoid, anxiety
Paranoid, having a bad dream
Paranoid, I’ll come in
