Artists are creating a soundtrack to the current political climate as they’ve shared songs that speak directly to how America—and the world at large—has responded to recent cases of police-involved shootings. The protests and civil unrest has inspired many artists to return to the studio, including R&B singer Mario who penned his new single “Rewrite It.”
When asked about why he decided to craft “Rewrite It,” he said that he wanted to use his platform for something beneficial to the culture. “Having a voice and talent means nothing if you aren’t using your platform when it matters the most. Sovereignty has to be declared and this is my declaration,” said Mario. “In the song I talk about being reserved and generations understanding who they are and the magnitude of their power. As an artist, I’m extremely passionate about standing up for what I believe in and using my gifts to reach the masses.”
