SDG themed children’s publishing outfit, EkoPages recently partnered with top international and local agencies to execute the SDG Literacy Drive across the 6 geopolitical zones.
The SDG Literacy Drive was birthed to educate the African Child on environmental sustainability, renewable energy and sustainable development goals in general through Literature.
EkoPages, who was responsible for the provision of the literature text, Jemima and the Wind Turbine as the main project material, partnered with fellow eco-warriors, TNCI and REES
AFRICA to execute the whole rounded project.
The project which kickstarted on the 18th of June, 2021 at the British Council, Ikoyi, came to an end on the 4th of February, 2022. During the duration, the team visited schools across
Lagos, Oyo, Abuja, Edo, Enugu and Kaduna to educate children on sustainability and the SDGs.
Speaking with the Team Lead of EkoPages, Tenn Zipa, He emphasized the importance of using Literature to educate the younger generation on the SDGs.
“Children Learn better with stories and pictures, so this is a powerful tool to use in educating the kids on the SDGs.”
Olayiwola Mariam, the Chief Communications Officer also spoke on the need for the adaptation of SDG themed books into the school curriculum.
“ It is not just enough for children to read these books. The Government and stakeholders must also make sure that SDG themed literature texts are inculcated into both primary and secondary curriculum.”
