Olamide made a post on his Instagram page about cutting ones coat according to size. The YBNL act wrote that a cheerful giver cannot have savings and he used the case of Aliko Dangote, the richest African man, as example. He suggested that Aliko Dangote could have shared his wealth with Nigerians to solve the problem of economic hardship but that would leave the billionaire poor.
Olamide’s point of view opposes that of Davido who has been an advocate for successful people, especially artistes, to help those in the lower echelon to rise to the top. Davido even has a mantra to spread this idea. He says, “we rise by lifting others” and it has become a common saying in the country but Olamide is coming from a dissident perspective. He opines that if one must render help to others, there must be provision for self.
