‘Everybody Dies’ is the eleventh track of Billie Eilish’s sophomore studio album, Happier Than Ever. Billie wonders when she will die, and tries to give listeners comfort in that death happens to everyone, and that they are not unknown. However, she warns of the harsh truth: that they might not want to die when it is time, but that it’s okay to be upset because they are loved.
The song covers various topics, including honesty, immortality, lockdown, the future, and hints at heartbreak. This song is basically Billie thinking out loud. She wonders when she will die, and if, in the future, there will be a different way of life and death. At the end Billie is trying to comfort the audience in that they are not alone.
The song is sung softly over a simple synthesizer backing track. The intro is repeated multiple times throughout the song, combined with the first verse’s backing track.

Lyric Video
[Verse 1]
Everybody dies, surprise, surprise
We tell each other lies, sometimes, we try
To make it feel like we might be right
We might not be alone
Be alone
[Verse 2]
“Everybody dies,” that’s what they say
And maybe, in a couple hundred years, they’ll find another way
I just wonder why you’d wanna stay
If everybody goes
You’d still be alone
[Verse 3]
I don’t wanna cry, some days I do
But not about you
It’s just a lot to think about the world I’m used to
The one I can’t get back, at least not for a while
I sure have a knack for seein’ life more like a child
It’s not my fault, it’s not so wrong to wonder why
Everybody dies
And when will I?
[Verse 4]
You oughta know
That even when it’s time, you might not wanna go
But it’s okay to cry and it’s alright to fold
But you are not alone
You are not unknown
