Halsey Girl Is A Gun

“Girl is a Gun” is the fifth song off of Halsey’s fourth album, If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power. Being one of the more pop-esc, upbeat songs on the record, Girl is a Gun follows a more playful attitude around love and being a heartbreaker rather than the common theme in Halsey’s music, the heartbroken.
Going along with the general theme of the album, the horrors of the singer’s pregnancy, this song could be about them not feeling good enough to be a mother. In their mind, they’re too impulsive, too explosive, too mean, too playful, too irresponsible. Halsey talked about the way society views women as “unfit for motherhood” if they’re sexually desirable, and this song could be talking about those feelings. Furthermore, the lines “so i’m givin’ you up/and you’ll be better with a nice girl, darlin’” could be talking about their child being better off with a “better” mother.
The song title, Girl is a Gun could be a reference to Tyler, The Creator’s song, A BOY IS A GUN
