On Jun 15, 2020, the Black Entertainment Television (BET), the organizations of the annual BET Awards announced the nominations for the 2020 BET Awards.
Nigerian stars, Grammy-nominated Burna Boy and MAVIN Rema were nominated in the Best International Act and Viewer’s Choice: Best New International Act categories respectively.
You might remember that Burna Boy famously won the Best International Act category at the 2019 BET Awards. During the acceptance speech, his mom and manager, Bose Ogulu famously steered the crowd with tales of blackness. Other Nigerian winners in this category include Ice Prince, Davido, D’Banj and Tuface.
Other Africans in the Best International Act category include South African singer, Sho Madjozi and Innos’B from the Democratic Republic of Congo. In the Viewer’s Choice: Best New International Act category, Zimbabwean act, Sha Sha was nominated.
The 2020 BET Awards will mark the ceremony’s 20th anniversary and BET’s 40th anniversary. A simulcast will commence live from (8 p.m. ET) across Viacom/CBS networks on June 28, 2020.
