4 to Serve Jail Term for Allegedly Raping a Married Woman

“Four persons alleged to have forcefully had carnal knowledge of a married woman have been remanded in prison.”

Four persons have been remanded in a Makurdi Magistrate Court for allegedly raping a married woman. The four accused persons, Aondona Ibiam, Terungwa Iorkyaan, Tersoo Tume and Aondonyerga Tyav were said to have committed the offence in September.

The four were arraigned on Monday and were ordered to be remanded in prison after the Magistrate, Mrs. Theresa Wergba could not take their plea.

According to the Prosecutor, the case was reported at Ukim Divisional Police Station on Sept. 21, by one Dr. Daniel Iorkaa of Yam Market area in Zaki-Biam who said the victim told her Ibiam and Iorkyaan took her to a herbalist, while Tersoo Tume administered some substance on her which rendered her powerless as Ibiam had carnal knowledge of her without her consent.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Imo Edward said the four accused were charged for criminal conspiracy, administering obnoxious substance and having carnal knowledge without consent.

Insp. Edward told the court that the offences contravened Sections 97, 250 of the Penal Code, Laws of Benue State (Revised Edition), 2004.

They were ordered to be remanded at the Federal Prisons, Makurdi and the case adjourned to Nov.18 for further hearing.
