The Nigerian music industry has gained much recognition in the last few years since the world started appreciating our unique style and afro beats. It is safe to assume that the next few years will be gratifying for Nigerian music and Africa.

Getting to this position wasn’t easy, and we have a lot of stars to thank for laying this impeccable foundation that our music industry currently enjoys. The effect of this solid standing created an easy path to the international market for upcoming Nigerian acts with the talent and dedication necessary to step on the world music stage.

We have compiled a list of 5 stars to watch out for in 2022, and with the introduction of TikTok, going viral and hitting the international market just got easier.

Here are the ones to watch out for;

 

  1. Victony

Anthony Victor, popularly known for his moniker Victony is a Nigerian rapper, singer and songwriter. He made his debut in 2017 as a rapper with a mixtape titled ‘The Outlaw King’  on SoundCloud but has since decided to be a singer.

Victony had his breakthrough in 2021 with his single ‘Pray,’ which was released after his unfortunate accident.

Since then, he has become a star to look out for. His song ‘Holy Father,’ a collaboration with Mayorkun, showed how incredibly talented he is.

 

  1. Ruger

Micheal Adedayo, popularly known as Ruger, is a Nigerian songwriter and singer. He gained recognition for his unique sound and exciting look, i.e. the famous eyepatch.

He draws his inspiration from Fuji and R&B artists. Ruger utilized the beautiful tool called social media for promotion and got discovered by D’Prince, who then groomed him before he was unveiled to the world.

The release of his EP, Pandemic, which had songs like ‘Bounce,’ helped make his sound memorable to Nigerians as it topped many charts, including Apple Music Nigeria’s Chart.

He’s currently reaping the benefits of a successful career, and we are excited to see what the year holds for him.

 

  1. Zinoleesky

Oniyide Azeez, better known by his moniker ‘Zinoleesky,’ is a fast-rising artiste with a fantastic range. He is currently signed to Marlian Records, owned by the one and only Naira Marley. He has dominated the charts with singles like ‘Mapariwo’ and doesn’t seem to have plans to fall off our radars soon.

 

  1. Ayra Starr

Oyinkansola Sarah Aderibigbe, known professionally as Ayra Starr, is a Nigerian singer and songwriter. She started by covering songs by famous artists and sharing them on her Instagram page. This brought her to the attention of Don Jazzy, who signed her to Mavin Records.

She has topped the chart with songs from her debut EP and album. The lead single from her album ‘Bloody Samaritan’ peaked on the Turntable Top 50 chart, making it the first solo song by a female artist to reach the number 1 position.

Since then, she has been on an upward trajectory, and watching her leave her footprint in the music industry will be exciting.

Adintu Victor is a Nigerian Afro-pop singer and songwriter. He started music at a very young age. He is popularly known for his hit single ‘Big Thug Boys.’

Since then, he has released other hits like Blow, Hustle, My song, Temperature and most recently, confession. He is a star to look out for.
