Michael Ajetomobi, known to fans as Aremmic, has captivated listeners with his soulful, worship-driven sound and powerful lyrics. But his path to becoming a renowned gospel artist wasn’t a straightforward one. Raised in a musically inclined family, Aremmic had exposure to various genres, yet he chose gospel music as his life’s calling. In a recent interview, the talented singer-songwriter opened up about why gospel music, above all others, resonated with his spirit.
“For me, gospel music isn’t just a genre,” Aremmic began. “It’s a way of life, a ministry, and a form of worship. Growing up in a Christian household with my father as a choir director, gospel music was the foundation of everything we did. It wasn’t just about singing; it was about connecting with God and leading others into that same connection.”
Despite being influenced by artists from genres like R&B, soul, and pop—ranging from Westlife and Boyz II Men to gospel giants like Kirk Franklin and Fred Hammond—Aremmic always felt drawn to the message behind gospel music. “I listened to all kinds of music growing up, but the gospel was different,” he explained. “The message of hope, faith, and salvation spoke to me in ways other genres didn’t. I wanted to be part of something that changes lives, and gospel music does that.”
At a time when other genres might have offered more commercial opportunities, Aremmic chose to follow a path rooted in faith. “There were moments when I thought about venturing into other types of music, but I always came back to gospel,” he admitted. “It’s the message that matters most to me. It’s not just entertainment; it’s ministry. Every song I write and every note I sing is a form of worship.”
Aremmic also spoke about the importance of authenticity in his music. “It’s easy to get caught up in the allure of fame and success, especially in more commercial genres. But for me, gospel music is about staying true to who I am and the message I want to share,” he said. “When I sing, I’m not just performing; I’m worshiping. That authenticity resonates with people, and that’s what makes gospel music so powerful.”
Choosing gospel music has also given Aremmic a deeper sense of purpose. “There’s something incredibly fulfilling about using your gift to glorify God,” he reflected. “I could have pursued fame or commercial success in other genres, but nothing compares to the joy I feel when I see how my music touches someone’s life, whether it’s bringing them closer to God or offering them hope in difficult times.”
With songs like Echoes of Love and Sweet Communion, Aremmic’s career is a testament to his dedication to the gospel genre. His soulful melodies and heartfelt lyrics continue to inspire a growing global audience, leading listeners into worship with every release. “Gospel music is my calling, and I know I’m right where I’m supposed to be,” he said with a smile.
For Aremmic, gospel music isn’t just a genre he chose—it’s his ministry, his passion, and his life’s purpose. “I’m here to spread the good news, one song at a time,” he concluded. “And for that, I’m grateful every day.”
