Gernot Rohr Says Chelsea Punishing Mikel Obi for playing At The Olympics
The midfielder was captain of the Dream Team VI as Samson Siasia's men won the competition's bronze medal.
And on arrival, he is yet to make any appearance and the Super Eagles technical adviser believes he’s suffering from his decision to serve his fatherland.
"He is being punished for deciding to go to the Olympics for Nigeria," Rohr told ESPN FC.
The former Bordeaux tactician has also claimed to repay the 29-year-old’s faith by not judging his involvement with the Super Eagles based on his lack of playing time at his club.
"He is training well and doing well for us. I cannot punish him for deciding to make a sacrifice for Nigeria."
The 2018 World Cup Qualifying Group B leaders take on Algeria and the former Lyn Oslo man is expected to lead Rohr’s charges.
