Nigerian movie producers have been asked by the Nigerian Oscars Selection Committee to submit their works for the Best Foreign Language Film at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Awards, popularly known as the Oscars.
According to a statement, the committee noted that only high quality films would be reviewed and selected based on the quality of the film’s narrative and production values.
The submission period is from June 16 to July 16 and should be by post to House 2, Block 101, Plot 8, Furo Ezimora Street, Lekki Residential Scheme, Phase 1, Lagos.
The committee also stated that only complete entries, including entry form, and preview DVD screener with productions in the either 35mm, DCP, HDCAM, DigiBeta, and Blu-ray Disc formats would be considered.
It gave three eligibility conditions: Films would be accepted only from Nigerian filmmakers living in Nigeria and Diaspora whose films relate to Nigeria; the recording of the original dialogue track as well as the completed picture must be predominantly in a language or languages other than English with accurate English subtitles. (Pidgin English is considered as a foreign language); and the motion picture must have first been released in Nigeria no earlier than October 1, 2013 and no later than September 30, 2014.
According to the Commission, films that have previously screened publicly in Nigeria, aired on television prior to the selection, available for purchase on DVD in Nigeria, or are available for
continuous online viewing in their entirety are not eligible.
