The much-anticipated launch of Smileys Numero Uno sneaker line will take place on July 20th 2024 at the prestigious One Art Gallery in Anthony, Lagos State. The brainchild of founder Wasulu Habib Olawale, states that the sneakers signifies “number one” collection, as it’s the first sneaker the fast rising athleisure brand is producing for its customers. This limited-edition line, consisting of only 100 pairs, is produced to make wearers feel special and unique.
The launch took a meticulous two-year process, marked by numerous design iterations and careful market research.
According to Habib, the inspiration behind Smileys Numero Uno Limited Edition is to create a sneakers line that seamlessly blends sporty and casual elements, embodying the athleisure trend. The design process involved extensive consultation with customers to ensure that the final product meets their needs for both style and comfort. The sneakers are crafted from high-quality materials, including a rubber sole for durability and a combination of mesh and suede leather for the upper, striking a balance between comfort and stability.
Habib studied Comouter Science at University of Ilorin, where he also started his entrepreneurial journey as he organized events. He started the business by selling socks to close friends and family, Habib built his customer base while working as a marketing and communications lead while working for Ingressive.
To satisfy more customers Habib and his team at Smileys Africa expanded the product options for customers, by including beanies, briefs, active wear and casual wears, he further expanded his customer reach through word-of-mouth, email marketing, content marketing and social media for Smileys Africa range of Athleisure fits.
