Why Neymar's Return to Brazil leaves Questions for PSG to Answer
However, the aftermath of his return to his homeland is only certain to ramp up suggestions once more that the £200million superstar is unhappy with life in Paris, and already eyeing the exit.
Neymar was given three days off by Les Parisiens to deal with a family issue back in South America, missing the club's Christmas dinner. The 25-year-old had been banned for his side's Ligue 1 clash against Lille on Saturday, which PSG won 3-1.
"He called me on Saturday morning to tell me he had an important thing in his family and asked me if the club and I agreed to let him go to Brazil," Unai Emery said at his pre-match press conference. "It was important for him.
"The human element is important, sometimes the work goes into the background.”
Indeed, that seemed to be the case with the 25-year-old, usually prolific on social media, not posting on Instagram in the last four days.
There was one post from the player on Twitter however, declaring: "Focus, faith and celebrating one more day!!"
According to L'Equipe, Neymar returned home to be with his sister, Rafaella, with whom he is close.
But now other social media posts from South America involving the Brazilian call into question his reasons for a homecoming and suggest he may have questions to answer upon his return to France.
The Brazilian has been pictured at a family friend's birthday party, with Guilherme Pitta, the father of pal Reinaldo, posting a message declaring: "Thanks for the visit, you're still the same guy, that's why you're loved, thank you Neymar, a great gift to receive you at my party."
Also present at the party was Lucas Lima, the Santos star and former boyfriend of Neymar's sister.
Neymar also posed for snaps with dentist Rafael Puglisi, who posted a picture on his Instagram account after a meeting at his institute in Sao Paulo.
Neymar’s time at PSG has been punctuated by suggestions that he isn’t fully happy in the French capital - amid fallings out with both Emery and Edinson Cavani - and is already eyeing a return to Spain with Real Madrid, who have already begun stepping up a push to sign the Brazilian.
Additionally, there have been reports that other members of the dressing room have been unhappy with certain 'privileges' afforded to the big-money star.
Those suggestions will now ramp up once more, and Emery will have questions to answer upon his star man's return; questions which Emery will be under pressure to answer, to prove he's not a push over.
