The footage shows Walter Scott’s car being pulled over due to a broken tail light, and Officer Slager asking for his paperwork.
He explains that he is in the process of purchasing the vehicle and does not have the correct paperwork with him.
After Slager returns to his police vehicle, Mr Scott opens his door and runs, leaving a passenger in the car.
Although the video does not capture Mr Slager firing 8 shots, gunshots and shouting are heard off-screen, while a previously released video had shown Slager firing at Scott, till he got hit and fell to the ground.
The earlier released video led to officer Slager’s dismissal and arrest yesterday, even as protesters held rallies in North Charleston, chanting “no justice, no peace”.
Meanwhile, it has also emerged that Slager had a prior complaint made against him about using force. Police are now currently re-investigating that case.
Slager is currently being held in jail without bond.
