PDM PDM Restates Commitment To Backing Only PDP Candidates In 2015

Some founding fathers of the Peoples Democratic Movement (PDM) have distanced themselves from the association's political platform in the 2015 elections saying they will only support candidates put forward by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The PDM was recently registered by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as a political party despite opposition from some of its founders, who argued that the movement was never meant to be a political party.

A communiqué signed by the PDM national secretary, Dr. Faruk Abdulazeez at the end of its meeting in Abuja on Wednesday, said as a pressure group within the PDP, the movement will support all PDP candidates in all future elections at all levels and once more restated its opposition to the political arm of PDM.

The movement which noted the current political crisis in the PDP said it appreciates the efforts of President Goodluck Jonathan and the party leadership in ensuring a speedy resolution and reconciliation of the issues involved.

The communiqué while maintaining its rejection of the registration of PDM as a political party, urged INEC to withdraw the certificate of registration it accorded PDM.

"We call on INEC to reconsider the registration of PDM as a party for the purpose of withdrawing the registration," it stated.

The meeting was attended by PDP Board of Trustees chairman, Tony Anenih; its national chairman, Senator Abubakar Mahdi; former minister Dubem Onyiah; Senator Ifeanyi Araraume and Alhaji Shuaibu Abdullahi among others.
