The Gold Coast singer-songwriter who channeled her parents’ split into a decade of indie-pop confessionals has a new name for that specific kind of ache. Amy Shark, born Amy Louise Billings, releases “Child of Divorce” as the third preview of her fourth studio album, “soft pop,” out July 31 via the Wonderlick Recording Company and Sony Music Entertainment Australia. The track landed on May 22, 2026, with a music video directed by someone who understands the quiet power of a single room. The clip holds on Shark’s face as she strums an acoustic guitar, her voice carrying the weight of a woman who learned love from chaos. Dann Hume co-produced the song, the same partnership that shaped her most vulnerable work. Shark wrote all eleven tracks on the album alone in her Gold Coast apartment, a disciplined month of torturous mornings and small breakthroughs. She then flew to Wales to record in a converted church with Hume, where she set strict guidelines: no beats, no old sounds, no concern for perfection if the mood was right.

The song is a slow, acoustic examination of the damage done by watching two people stop loving each other. Shark sings in the first person, not as a character but as a woman still unpacking the same suitcase.
