American rapper, singer, songwriter, and producer Blxst keeps his foot on the gas. The Los Angeles native, born Matthew Dean Burdette on September 17, 1992, in South Central, taught himself to produce and record in high school, drawing influence from Ryan Leslie, Pharrell, and Kanye West. He launched his career producing “Do Yo Gudda (Remix)” for Hitta J3 featuring Kendrick Lamar. He founded his own label, Evgle, in 2015. But the world caught up in 2020. His “No Love Lost” EP cracked the Billboard 200. His 2021 collaboration with Bino Rideaux, “Sixtape 2,” charted at number 46. The 2024 full-length “I’ll Always Come Find You,” a 20-track concept project executive produced with Sounwave, proved he could sustain an album’s worth of ideas. Now Blxst readies “Labor of Love,” his most personal statement to date, due June 12 via EMPIRE and International BLXST. Fully self-produced, the album focuses on discipline, sacrifice, fatherhood, and the daily effort required to maintain love and ambition.
