Chlöe starts off her highly anticipated solo debut album, In Pieces, singing over a sample of Louis Armstrong’s 1952 jazz classic, “Chloe (Song of the Swamp), one of the most known version of the composition originally written in the early ‘20s by Gus Kahn and Charles N. Daniels. Its lyrics follows a lonely man searching for his lover, Chloe.
Chlöe explained that the reason behind the sample goes back to her childhood. Her grandfather used to sing it to her when she was a little girl.
He’d go [singing] “Chlöe, Chlöe.” Even then as a little girl, I said one day I’m gonna use it in a project. Here I am now, years and years later, doing that.
She also performed part of the song as the intro to her 2021 VMAs performance of “Have Mercy.”

Chlöe, Chlöe
Someone’s calling
No reply
Nightshade’s falling
Hear him sigh (Ah)
Chlöe (Ah), Chlöe (Ah)
Empty spaces meet his eyes
Empty arms outstretched, he’s crying
