British singer James Blake releases Death of Love from his upcoming seventh album Trying Times. Produced with Jameela Jamil via Good Boy Records.

British singer, songwriter, and producer James Blake unveils his latest single, Death of Love, marking the first offering from his seventh studio album titled Trying Times. Produced by Blake alongside Jameela Jamil and Dominic Maker, the track arrived on January twenty-second through his independent label, Good Boy Records. The release features a live performance video directed by Harrison Adair, filmed in a minimalist office setting with the London Welsh Men’s Choir. This new chapter follows his departure from major labels, signaling a return to the vocal-forward, atmospheric electronic sound that defined his early career milestones.

Historically, James Blake emerged as a pivotal figure in the post-dubstep scene with his self-titled debut in twenty-eleven, later winning the Mercury Prize for his sophomore effort, Overgrown, in twenty-thirteen. Throughout the twenty-tens, he became one of the most sought-after collaborators in global music, contributing his distinct production and vocal style to era-defining albums by Beyoncé, Frank Ocean, and Kendrick Lamar. His recent work includes the Grammy-nominated Playing Robots Into Heaven and the collaborative project Bad Cameo with Lil Yachty. Death of Love incorporates a significant sample from Leonard Cohen’s final masterpiece, You Want It Darker, blending historic folk depth with Blake’s signature ghostly synths and heavy percussion. This project highlights his transition to complete independent control as he prepares for the full album launch in March.
