Chicago rapper Polo G doesn’t chase the adrenaline of a club record. He trades in pressure. “Clap,” his new single released in late May via Columbia Records, puts him back in that tense melodic pocket where he can sound calm and urgent at the same time. Produced by KRAZYMOB, the track is a mellow trap meditation on survival. Polo G does not overload the record. Instead, he builds it around the weight of fallen friends, the paranoia of public housing, and the quiet pride of a man who kept moving when most people would have stopped.
Polo G, born Taurus Tremani Bartlett in the Old Town area of Chicago, learned the city’s hard lessons from the sidewalk up. Raised in public housing, he came through the rough, quick-delivery style of local hip-hop known as drill, citing role models like G Herbo and Lil Durk. He broke through in 2018 with the single “Finer Things” and gained mainstream traction in 2019 with “Pop Out” featuring Lil Tjay. The single “Rapstar” from his third studio album Hall of Fame reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and has since crossed the billion-stream mark. Polo has maintained consistency across four studio albums. “Hood Poet,” his most recent full-length, arrived in 2024. “Clap” is his first solo release since that project.

The song’s title functions as a double entendre. The word “clap” refers to gunfire and the applause of an audience. Polo G uses the space to talk about violence, money, and revenge, but the delivery stays measured. He never raises his voice. The official music video, directed by a team based out of Los Angeles, mirrors that restraint. Shot in grainy, overcast tones, the visual opens on a warehouse interior. Concrete walls. Empty barrels. A single chair. Polo G sits in the center of the frame, his face half-lit. He doesn’t pace. He doesn’t posture. He lets the words carry the weight. The clip cuts between shots of the rapper in a parking garage, standing in front of a bulletproof truck, and framed against the Chicago skyline. No plot. No explosions. Just a man and the weight he carries. The video premiered on May 29, 2026.
