Skylar Grey has been keeping busy this year, putting on Eminem’s Music To Be Murdered By album, developing the emerging artist Elliot Taylor, and expanding her own repertoire of solo cuts. Today marks the arrival of her brand new single “Dark Thoughts,” which comes complete with a sensual shot-at-home music video. Composed by Skylar and Elliot Taylor, the song features a smouldering and dark instrumental fueled by pianos and dominant percussion; the beat evokes that of a late-night fantasy, her layered voice caught between two duelling worlds of existence.

There’s something tense about “Dark Thoughts,” a danger that never quite manifests. Though Skylar’s vocals are as lovely as ever, her melodies are paired with a haunting chord progression — not to mention the sensual video, which manages to juxtapose heightened sexuality with deadly weaponry.
