With just a day to the governorship elections nationwide, political violence has become the order of the day in different parts of the country with the most recent being the attack on the aides of the Action Alliance gubernatorial candidate in Oyo State, Taiwo Otegbeye, who were allegedly macheted by thugs loyal to one of the political parties contesting for the elections.

The Vanguard named the victims as Kabir Ademola, Idowu Akinsola, Femi Akinsola and Ayotunde.

Ayotunde was the worse hit as he received machete cut to his head, neck and the left ear, while others also had varying degrees of injuries.

Otegbeye, while speaking to the paper at the Foremost Hospital, Ibadan, where the victims are receiving treatment, said his aides were pasting his campaign posters in the Akobo area when thugs attacked them.

“My party faithful were in Akobo pasting posters when they were approached by some hoodlums who told them that they should stop pasting the posters because the area belonged to another party.

My men pleaded with them, but the hoodlums brought out machetes which they used to injure them.

For two hours, they could not get help after escaping from their attackers until the police patrol team from Ashi came to their rescue.

Before then, I made attempts to locate them after I received a distress call from one of them. I went to the Bodija Police Station, but they did not open the gate for me to lodge a complaint.

I later called the state police command control desk at Eleyele who then directed the Ashi police station to help us around 3am.”
