Known for her songs about breakups and heartbreak, and drug and sex references, Tove Lo is a perfect fit for a show like Euphoria. “How Long” was given to the HBO original series for the soundtrack to its second season, and it’s set to be featured in its fourth episode, “You Who Cannot See, Think of Those Who Can.”

In the song, the narrator discovers that their partner has been cheating on them; and how this makes them feel regret for not noticing, making references to the relationship between characters Maddy and Nate.

Before the song’s release, the Swedish singer teased the title of the track on TikTok and Instagram posts. Its release date was announced on January 24.

In 2019, Tove Lo foreshadowed her appearance in the Euphoria universe during a “Would You Rather?” game with The FADER. When asked if she would prefer to create a TV show for her character Sunshine Kitty or write a soundtrack song, her choice was the latter:

I think I would do music to the [soundtrack], ‘cause making music is my favorite thing. […] I think something in the world of Euphoria mixed with Superbad“.
