Authorities of the Bayelsa unit of the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company have confirmed the arrest of two persons for alleged vandalism of electricity cables and transformers in the state.
The PHED said the arrest was made by the state special security outfit, Operation Doo Akpo, during a security surveillance of the state capital.
Business Manager, PHED, Madu Ubazuoke, said the unidentified vandals had been handed over to the police for investigation and prosecution.
On the rising complaint from electricity consumers over the illicit activities of some persons under the guise of being members of the electricity committee in the state, Ubazuoke urged the security agencies to arrest the impostors.
“We have warned them to stop disconnecting homes, carrying out repairs and planting electricity poles in the state.
“The chairmen of the committees and their agents are not authorised to do so. The PHED does not give any committee any power to do so.”
The Business Manager said the PHED was committed to serving and giving quality power to the public.
