As February 2015 general elections approaches fast, Venerable Felix Okonkwo, a cleric of the Anglican Communion in Delta state, has warned Christians to be suspicious of the opposition All Progressive Congress (APC) saying it is an “Islamic party” with fanaticism as its mantra.

Ven. Okonkwo, who is also the governorship aspirant of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Delta State, said this in his address during a special thanksgiving service in honour of Ifeanyi Okowa.

He told the audience: “As Christians we have a right to our faith, Nigeria belongs to all of us. If you look at the party, you will agree with me that it is out to promote and propagate the ideas of Islamism. We cannot support such a party. If you go through APC you will know that they have nothing good for this country. Their business is to kill and destroy.”

Okonkwo appealed to the congregation which comprised the incumbent Governor of the Delta State Emmanuel Uduaghan, to be watchful so that the APC won’t be successful in its attempt to set Islamic program on Nigerians.

The cleric, who is the Vicar-in-Charge of St. Phillips Anglican Church, Asaba, venue of the service, asked for understanding and forgiveness by all within the fold of the PDP in state so that they can put up a combined front during the February polls.

Okonkwo then pleaded Governor Uduaghan to fund the church in implementation some of its developments, the governor in turn announced a donation of N10 million towards the completion of a building project within the church grounds.

Delta State is a main stranglehold of the ruling PDP in Nigeria’s oil-rich Niger Delta, the home state of the incumbent President Goodluck Jonathan, a Christian, whose most prominent combatant in the presidential battle is a Northern Muslim, General Mohammadu Buhari of the opposition APC.
