“Holding in your poop could kill you, at least bowel experts claim so. “
When it comes to defecation, lots of people prefer to wait until they’re in the familiar and comfortable surroundings of their own home.
Many are even ready to spend hours restraining their natural urges. But delaying your visit to the toilet could be far more dangerous than you think.
According to gastroenterologists, withholding inevitably leads to constipation and can cause circulation and heart problems, cramping, bloating, a distended gut and back pain. In extreme cases it could even result in death.
Kyle D STaller, a gastroenterologist at Massachusetts General Hospital says:“People who get into a habit of holding in can develop a dysfunction in the muscle used for pooing. So holding in is bad.
If you don’t poo when you need to, all the waste and toxins are just sitting in there. And your body keeps making waste, it can lead to an impacted bowel. Sometimes surgery is required, and if left untreated, an impacted bowel can actually kill you.”
So next time you feel your body needs to answer that call of nature — answer it whenever or wherever you are.
